It's the Darracq 200HP Sprint Special. 25l engine, but it's OHV, as you can see. Still drives and runs.

What a beast, I love the crazy fucking chain drive cars. Back when brakes were for pussies.

so aerodynamic!

It's a front engine, RWD 2 seater with a V8 and an open top, what's not to love?
Oh, yeah...The total loss lubrication system, hand pump fuel system, acrid upwind exhaust system, death brakes, death steering column, death tires and death crash rating.
I'm glad the last 108 years were fruitful from a technology stand point.

So maybe we should enter it into a death race spec series.

total loss lubrication, what's that mean?

Pumps oil where it's needed from a supply, doesn't really make any effort to re-collect in a sump.

You left out hand-adjusted friction shocks, fragile wheels, no bumpers, seatbelts lol, and steering-column throttle.

The only thing louder would be the screams of joy (fear?) of those crazy enough to drive it.

I left for a bit, but as Rover pointed out, it's a system that goes through a lot of oil. To be clear, that big tank with '203' on it isn't fuel, it's oil. It just bleeds down into the case, then is blown out or burned. No real sump, no oil pump, just gravity feed.
The gas is in the other tank behind the seat. That the driver siphons gas out of as needed with the hand pump on his left.

At least there's no tiller!

Hahaha. That sounds nuts! siphoning your own gas is only a little crazier than constantly blowing oil out. How do you know how much to siphon? Or is this the same principal? Whatever you don't use get's blown out?

That's the kind of stuff I try to keep in mind when talking about Wankels, or electric cars, or hydrogen fuel cells.
Mainstream internal combustion cars looks awesome now, but they use to be batshit crazy. Every technology needs its own fair shake.

Haha yeah, another 100 years from now, maybe even 50. What will people think of car tech now? Will they think we are just as crazy as we think this Darracq is?
